Our Team is now AOAC Gold Certified
Congratulations to Dr. Shannon on becoming board certified!
This past fall, Dr. Shannon passed his board certification examination in orthodontics! Becoming board certified is not required to be an orthodontist, but both Dr. Shannon and Dr. Carlson are fully committed to providing the best care for their patients and they are the only two board certified orthodontists in the Duluth/Cloquet/Superior area.
What is a Board Certified Orthodontist?
An orthodontist is a dentist who has continued his/her education and completed an American Dental Association accredited graduate program in the specialty of orthodontics. After graduating from a specialty program, an orthodontic specialist is then eligible to become board certified through the voluntary examination process of The American Board of Orthodontics (ABO).
In essence, board certification requires an individual orthodontist to be examined by his/her peers regarding orthodontic knowledge and clinical skills. The passage of the examination process is a demonstration to the dental profession and the general public of the orthodontist's pursuit of continued proficiency and excellence in orthodontics.
The certification process involves a thorough written examination covering a wide variety of information on which an orthodontist should be knowledgeable. Successful passage of the written examination allows the orthodontist to present treated cases which are evaluated by expert examiners of the board during the clinical examination.
What does this mean for me as a patient?
Having a board certified orthodontist taking care of you means that you can rest assured you are being provided with the highest quality and level of care available. A board certified orthodontist has demonstrated consistent clinical skills with great outcomes, and has proven a thorough and advanced understanding of the complexities of orthodontics. This means you can feel confident that you or your child are in great hands, with an outstanding orthodontist shaping your beautiful new smile!

Our Practice is AOAC Team Certified! It's no secret that investing in continuing education provides benefits to all of those we serve. Handmade Holidays at the Duluth Art Institute
Carlson Orthodontics is sponsoring Handmade Holidays at the DAI this Saturday, Dec. 3rd from 11am-2pm. This event is FREE and fun for all ages, you can just show up- no registration required. Kids participating in Handmade Holdiays can make unique gifts, cards, and wrapping paper for their loved ones. Even the littlest gift givers can get in on the fun!

Carlson Ortho Team Bowling 2011
The Carlson Ortho team recently had a friendly bowling competition, and a day to have some great team building time!
We have some great bowlers at Carlson Ortho, Sasha and Lisa took home the grand prize trophy for best combined team score. Ashley and Monica took home the trophy for lowest team score but I have a feeling they will be going for the "most improved" title for next years get together!
